With a two-game lead on Hartford and a three-game lead on Philadelphia and Chicago, it appears that the New York club is beginning to pull away from its competitors. If so, they could repeat their 1874 championship campaign. However, some observers believe that Hartford and Philadelphia are just as good as the Mutual club, and think the New York club has been playing over their heads.
