The fams are getting restless, awaiting the results of the opening matches, hoping their favorites advanced. Good news! The Round One fights have been completed, and now, for simplicity’s sake, I wish I’d just gone with 128 fighters. But I wanted every level 1 fighter to have a chance. 61 fighters advanced to the coveted round of 64 (starting to sound like the NCAA hoops tournament) with victories, while there were 4 draws.
I have decided to use an odd playoff system to determine the remaining 3 slots. The 3 fighters that drew who scored the greatest differential in terms of punches landed have been given a bye. The remaining 5 that drew will fight, and I’ve added a sixth fighter, giving a lifeline to one losing fighter. These 6 will fight, and the winners will take on the byes for a slot into the tournament proper!
Trying to be objective, as many posters identified their favorites, I am going with the fighter that lost a split decision where the officiating seemed to be most skewed. There were 7 split decision matches, and one result clearly stunk up the Mohegan, causing a temporary evacuation, made more difficult because Butterbean didn’t want to leave the buffet!
I'll be copying and pasting and parsing in the results this evening, as I'm not sure how long a post is possible. Then it'll be the playoff bouts, and then the round of 64! Stay Tuned!
