Great spelling of fans, Mike ! I'll learn, eventually. Anyhow, here's the first set of results from Round One, with the winners bolded:
- Charlie Jordan vs Art Jimmerman TKO 4 on cuts. The fight was even until the bout was stopped a 2nd time to check Charlie’s cut.
- Olian Alexander vs Joe Cox KO 8. They each had a KD before the KO. Cox landed twice as many punches.
- Elmo Henderson vs Charlie Polite UD. Polite had a KD, landed many more punches and had a higher % of punches landed.
- Joseph Smith vs Elgie Walters MD. Elgie had a KD, but Joe landed 216 punches, as opposed to 144.
- Wild Bill Hardney vs Mark Gastineau UD. Bill had 3 KDs, and outlanded Oh No Gastineau 225-116! The first favorite bites the dust, almost literally!
- Dwayne Hall vs Art Card UD. Art outlanded Dwayne, 183-101, and won even though his % landed was only 22%.
- Brian Nix vs Dick Wipperman UD. Brian outlanded the Whip, 240 to 165, and landed 55% as opposed to Whip’s 29%. Each had an eye swollen during their war!
- Vic Brown vs Lou Strydom KO 5. Lou had 2 KDs before the KO, seizing the initiative despite a swelling eye.
- Tony LaRosa vs Unknown Winston KO 5. Unknown no longer, it was pretty even until the KO!
- Carmine Vingo vs Freddy Hubert SD. This was close, as the punches and percentages landed were very close.
- George Logan vs Tony Booth UD. George notched a KD, and outlanded Tony 220-147. He won despite committing 3 fouls and losing a point. Another favorite comes up short!
- Cookie Wallace vs Mario Cawley UD. Mario’s 2 KDs won it.
- Edward Baines vs Tony Musto UD. Baines suffered a bad cut, and was outlanded 332-83. Ouch!
- Garing Lane vs Marcus Rhode UD. Garing scored 3 KDs in an easy win.
- Charley Powell vs Al Cole TKO 8. Cole’s eye was swollen and he was outlanded 282-124.
- Joe Bygraves vs Gunnar Barlund SD. Joe was cut and then bothered by an accidental head butt, and Gunnar eeked out the win.
