The guy only had one year left on his contract? Could you run a test and try cutting some more players (on a copy that you won't export)? If you cut any player with one year left, is no money charged? If you cut any player with two years left, are you only charged for the second year? If you cut any player with three years left, are you only charged for the second and third years?

I'll try this, though I'm the commish, so maybe I should do it in a copy of the league...
