Yeah, so I don't think McGwire is really related to what I said at all.
As for being lied to, I don't think that was the issue. How do we even know what was true about Palmeiro at the time? It's possible Palmeiro was telling the truth, and Tejada really was the one giving Palmeiro the steroids for all we knew. Few people cared about the Tejada link at the time.
I don't think people cared that much about the truth.
