May 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche

17th May 2008

Before this game there were rumors that unhappy 2B Luis Rivas who was sent down to Nashville will get traded. But at game time no decision was publicized yet. So far we only swept our division rivals St. Louis and Buffalo. If we sweep the Astros as well it would help our rush for the division lead a lot.

Game #39 – Houston [19-19] (R. Oswalt 1-4, 4.47 ERA) at Milwaukee [20-18] (D. Bush 4-3, 3.17 ERA)

SS A. Escobar - 2B R. Weeks - 1B P. Fielder - LF R. Braun - RF G. Gross - CF S. Victorino - 3B M. Gamel - C J. Estrada

Another awful day for baseball at Miller Park. Strond wind (21 mph) from center kept the game hitless until the 4th inning, when we were able to construct a run. Bush looked like pitching his second consecutive shutout until Carlos Lee broke his one-hitter with a 451 (!) yards blast in the 7th. The Astros scored another one in the 8th, to make it a 3-2 game. In the ninth Capellan and Shouse allowed runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs, and due to fatigue we had to bring in mop-up reliever Elmer "Vitoria" Dessens to close out the game. When everybody thought the Astros had the game tying hit, 2B Rickie Weeks made a fantastic play to get the final unassisted out at 2nd base.

Houston at Milwaukee: 2-3

W: D. Bush (5-3), L: R. Oswalt (1-5)
H: J. Capellan (3), B. Shouse (4)
S: E. Dessens (1)
HR - C. Lee (8) / -
MoM: D. Bush - 8.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

Bush lowered his ERA to 3.04, which is the best of all Milwaukee starters. Chris Capuano and his 3.59 ERA are the "worst" of all our starters. Bush's WHIP of 1.12 ranks 6th in the National League.

Elsewhere:

Chien-Ming Wang
(1-4, 5.86 ERA) threw a one hitter for New York Yankees against the Detroit Tigers.

C Chris Ianetta (.264, 1 HR, 20 RBI) went 5 from 5 for the Rockies in a 9-7 victory against the Pirates.
