May 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche

19th May 2008

American League Player of the Week:
Justin Huber (Kansas City): .474, 3 HR, 13 RBI

National League Player of the Week:
Matt Holliday
(Colorado): .583, 4 HR, 11 RBI

SS Marcos Yepez (.284, 3 HR ,14 RBI) of our Higher A Brevard County Manatees wins the outstanding performer of the week in the Florida State League. He hit .474 with 2 HRs and 7 RBI.

SP Chad Billingsley who is currently a free agent refused a minor league deal offered last week.

The next match against the Reds who have more left than right batters. Maybe not an bad idea to give lefty Manny Parra another start. His low stamina might be a problem though as our bullpen is not very rested at the moment. Another problem could be Cincinnati starter Sam LeCure, who is the big leagues best pitcher at the moment.

Game #41 – Milwaukee [22-18] (M. Parra 3-1, 3.46 ERA) at Cincinnati [19-21] (S. LeCure 2-2, 0.65 ERA)

SS C. Izturis - 2B R. Weeks - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - 3B B. Hall - RF G. Gross - CF S. Victorino - J. Estrada

Sam LeCure struck out nine through six innings, but the run given up in the first and and second inning were enough to hand the Reds another loss. Manny Parra on the other hand pitched seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.96. Relievers Capellan and Fujita brought the shutout home. The game ended nevertheless on a horrible note:
2B Rickie Weeks (.301, 5 HR, 25 RBI, 32 R, 8 SB) tore his ankle ligaments in the bottom of the ninth and will miss approx. 13 months. A serious blow for us as Weeks was on his way to a career year.

Milwaukee at Cincinnati: 4-0

W: M. Parra (4-1), L: S. LeCure (2-3)
HR - S. Victorino (5), R. Weeks (5) / -
MoM: M. Parra - 7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

I'm not sure how to deal with the loss of Weeks. He was the perfect Nr. 2 batter this season, offering a high average, a fair deal of power and speed, along with surprisingly above average defense.

Elsewhere:

Bartolo Colon
(6-0, 3.67 ERA) pitched a 5-hitter for the Los Angeles Angels, who beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0.

Also the Mets 19 year old wonderkind Deolis Guerra (3-0, 1.21 ERA) threw a 5-hitter. The Padres lost the game 5-0.
