May 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche
21st May 2008
With a rested rotation we head into a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. We faced them in last years 2nd playoff round and also now we share the same record. Luis Rivas (.037) and Franklin Gutierrez (.182) both get another shot to raise their averages.
Game #43 – Milwaukee [23-19] (B. Sheets 4-3, 3.49 ERA) at Arizona [23-19] (E. Gonzalez 4-2, 2.59 ERA)
SS C. Izturis - CF S. Victorino - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - 3B B. Hall - C. J. Estrada - RF F. Gutierrez - 2B L. Rivas
After struggling through the first two innings, Ben Sheets was on the pace to a complete game victory until he gave up the tying home run to Gonzalez in the bottom of the ninth. Closer Fujita recorded the final outs to lead us to extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth Cruz allowed a single to speedy Upton who eventually scored the walk-off run after a double by Callaspo.
Milwaukee at Arizona: 3-4 (10)
W: B. Medders (3-1), L: J. Cruz (0-1)
HR - / M. Reynolds (6), C. Gonzalez (7)
MoM: M. Reynolds - 2/2, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI
While Rivas and Gutierrez are a combined 6 from 67 with 4 RBI's, Ben Sheets is 8 from 24 with 7 RBI.
Elsewhere:
DH Jim Thome (.291, 7 HR, 23 RBI) hit his 500th career homer. He plays currently for the Chicago White Sox.
The Blue Jays C Robinzon Diaz (.365, 0 HR, 10 RBI) went 5 from 5 in 12-7 victory over Tampa Bay. Diaz is regarded as one of the most thrilling prospects in the league.
3B Andy La Roche (.327, 10 HR, 27 RBI) hit three homers in a 10-2 victory of his Dodgers against the Reds.
MR Salomon Torres (2-1, 1.78 ERA) signed a one year contract extension worth $1,730,000 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rumour:
Ben Sheets is rumoured not seeking a new contract with the Brewers as he wants to test free agency in winter.
