Here is the one big bout of the month. The first unification bout in the history of the universe.

Joe Frazier 23-1-0 (23) v Gregorio Peralta 32-6-1 (20)

15 rounds for the WBA/WBC titles at the Madison Square Garden.

1969-02-11

Frazier comes into the fight a bit heavier than when he fought Ali. Peralta on the other hand is said to be in the shape of his life, and it sure looks like he is.

Round 1:
Only 20 seconds into the fight and Peralta lands a hard short right hook that stunts Frazier. Frazier comes right back with a big combo and you can't say it's starts out slow. Frazier lands two left hooks to the face of Peralta, who is caught in the corner. Frazier continues with a right hook and hard cross and Peralta really seems to be in trouble here. He protects himself for the rest of the round and towards the end he lands a couple of punches himself. 21-6

Round 2:
The round starts with a toe to toe exchange that Smokin' Joe gets the better of. Frazier follows the exchange up with a hard left. Peralta starts makins some work himself as he lands a combo that could win him the round had it not been for a strong ending by Joe. 11-9

Round 3:
The rounds start slow as both look to take an early breather. Then Frazier lands with a good combo and a hook. Peralta ends the round best landing with some jabs and crosses. 6-4

Round 4:
Frazier starts strong with a hook and a cross. Frazier then stuns Peralta with a another left hook and a right cross. Peralta then has his moment landing a hook and a combo, but Frazier immediately stops his small flurry by pounding him for the last half a minute. 23-7

Peralta really needs to keep Frazier more away instead of trying to trade with him, cause if this continues it will be over soon.

Round 5:
Once again Frazier dominates landing hooks and crosses, and a strong combination at the end almosts sends Peralta to the floor as he starts looking tired. 15-2

Round 6:
Finally Peralta starts to keep him away as he lands his jabs and a good combo. Halfway into the round Frazier lands another big combo and Peralta is in trouble. He pounds him for the last minute of the round and Peraltas good start was to no use. 28-9

Round 7:
Frazier lands a hook that opens a cut under Peraltas right eye. Frazier continues landing accurate power punches and once again Peralta is stumbling backward. Frazier lands a wild left hook and the ref looks like he is considering stopping the fight. Peralta just holds on a another big Frazier round ends. 29-2

Round 8:
Frazier senses he can knock Peralta out as he comes out agressive looking to land big punches. And he does. He pounds Peralta with combos and then a strong cross sends him to the floor for the first time in the fight. Peralta tries to get up but he can't do it. He is counted out here in the 8th.

The winner by KO in the 8th round, still WBA Champ and new WBC champ - Joe Frazier.

Frazier moves to 24-1-0 (24) and Peralta moves to 32-7-1 (20)

A very strong showing and Ali really has some task to look forward to should the fight be made.
