July 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche
31st July 2008
July ends with a key series against the Cardinals who are only one game behind us. Webb is back at 100 % and will hopefully give us another strong outing at Miller Park.
Game #106 –St. Louis [56-49] (C. Narveson 6-8, 4.94 ERA) at Milwaukee [57-48] (B. Webb 3-3, 3.26 ERA)
SS C. Izturis - CF S. Victorino - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder -3B M. Reynolds - 2B A. Escobar - C H. Blanco - RF L. Cain
Webb had a horrible start and should have been taken out of the game after two innings (5 runs on 7 hits), but as long reliever Garcia started yesterday I couldn't throw in another reliever after only two innings. He eventually stayed five innings, but the game seemed lost. The rest of the game wasn't any better. Not the slightest chance to get a rally going and in addition we had to fire in the whole bullpen to get this game in the box. Actually I thought the Cardinals are done for the season when Albert Pujols went down. But in contrast to us, they still have four guys with 60+ RBIs in their lineup. Maybe it was a mistake we didn't trade for bullpen help before the trading deadline?
St. Louis at Milwaukee: 10-3

HR: W. Betemit (21) / -

Elsewhere:
The Blue Jays are expected to miss catcher Phil Avlas (.253, 5 HR, 13 RBI) until opening day as he suffered a torn calf muscle.
SS Jose Reyes (.320, 14 HR, 49 RBI) went 5 from 6 for the Mets in a 11-7 victory over the Phillies.
Andy Pettitte (4-4-1, 4.00 ERA) won his 200th career game. Before getting the W he blew a save.
