California Dreamin' vol 4.4
Forest Inks Long Term Deal
In an announcement issued by the California Crusaders front office, it was revealed that first baseman and two-time reigning Batter of The Year Jakob Forest had signed a contract extension that will keep the superstar in red pinstripes through the 2014 season.
"Honestly, this is what I wanted. We got the deal taken care of before the season started, so it's not going to bother me or be in the press or anything. Get it done with and let's concentrate on beating L.A." said Forest.
Crusaders GM Mike Voelker was equally pleased. "Really, what could I do? I had made sure there was going to be budget room, and then I just kinda went to Jakob with a blank check. It's not like he hasn't earned it, right? Truthfully, I'm glad he didn't ask for more!"
The deal will pay Forest the same rate each season, $18.3 million. It's a 50% increase from the 12.2M he's making this year, and it's the second time the slugger has signed an extension with California.
Last season, Forest led the GUBA with a VORP of 101.1, a .456 OBP, 104 walks, and a 1.015 OPS. Only 28 years old, the GUBA's premiere first baseman is in the prime of his career and will remain in California as long as he wants to be around.
