Joy in Mudville Rookies of the Year Announced
Although technically all players in the inaugural Joy in Mudville players were first-year players, league officials announced the winners of the Rookie-of-the-Year awards.
The honors were based on players who would have been eligible in real life.
St. Louis short stop Ed Crosby captured the National League honor. A starter at age 21 in the June All-Star Game, Crosby hit .316 with 10 home runs and 70 RBIs for the Cardinals. He also scored 78 runs in 148 games.
New York Yankee pitcher Steve Kline won the American League award. The 23-year-old right-hander compiled an 18-8 record with a 2.75 ERA. Kline walked just 51 batters while striking out 115 in 291.1 innings.
