August 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche
8th August 2008
We took the NL Central lead back yesterday after the Cardinals lost three in a row. The Astros (eight games back) seem also to be out of the race.
Game #113 – Milwaukee [61-51] (C. Capuano 12-4, 4.04 ERA) at Colorado [49-63] (F. Morales 5-12, 4.59 ERA)
SS C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder- C J. Estrada - CF S. Victorino - 3B M. Gamel - 2B O. Infante
Both starters had problems finding the strikezone tonight. But while Morales got penalized with three runs in the third, Capuano didn't suffer any runs in 6.2 innings. The game became close when Atkins hit a two run homer of Capellan making it a one run game. Also closer Fujita gave the Rockies a final chance when he walked the lead off batter in the bottom of the ninth. But then he settled down in his typical fashion collecting save number 16.
Milwaukee at Colorado: 3-2
W: C. Capuano (13-4), L: F. Morales (5-13)
H: J. Capellan (4)
SV: S. Fujita (16)

MoM: C. Capuano - 6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
We are the only National League team with fewer than 100 home runs so far. Buffalo is next to last with 102. But "home runs don't win pennants": The AL Central leading Minnesota Twins (60-53) hit only 88 home runs. The Phillies (54-59) lead the big leagues with 181 long balls, but are 9.0 games behind the division leading Mets.
Elsewhere:
The Phillies lose their newly acquired outfielder Seth Smith (.281, 5 HR, 40 RBI, 2 SB) for up to eight months with herniated disc.
The Tigers C Colt Morton (.230, 13 HR, 33 RBI, 2 SB) hit three homers when the Michigan team hammered the Royals by a score of 19-8.
