Chicago's three-game sweep of Boston effectively ended the National League pennant race with a month to go in the season. They now lead the league by 4 1/2 games with less than ten games remaining in the season. It appears that Chicago will maintain their stranglehold on the NL championship despite the star performances by Boston's big three - Anson, McVey, and Barnes.
