Texas starter Bert Blyleven (2.74 ERA) runs his record to 8-1 with a 8-1 victory over the Blue Jays. Blyleven gives up 6 hits while striking out 10 in the complete game win. Jeff Byrd (4-3,3.34 ERA) takes the loss for Toronto.

Greg Luzinski (.281,31 RBI) hits his league-tying 12th home run to help the Phillies to a 8-6 win over Houston. Bob Boone (.286,2 HR,5 RBI) would go 4-for-5, Gary Maddox (.285,9 RBI) would add 3 hits and Larry Christenson (3-3,4.96 ERA) goes 7 solid innings giving up just 3 earned runs for Philadelphia.

Murphy, Matthews and C Biff Pocoroba would each have 3 hits in the extra inning affair, while Doug Radar would achieve the feat for San Diego. Braves reliever Mike Davey would pitch 4 scoreless innings to get the win.

The day off seemed to rejuvenate the team, if only for 1 inning as Eugene Thompson hit a 2-run double and Ben Ball added another RBI in the 1st to put us up 3-0 and we hung on from there. Mike Haynes pitched great but his control faltered in the 6th, hastening his early exit. Didn't want to screw around and lose this game so I went to my closer Bob Crouch early and pitched 2 1/3 scorless innings before giving way to Jesus Vera who picked up his 1st save of the season.
