CPL has just moved from OOTP6.5 to OOTP2007/OOTP8 and predictably, we lost a few owners. Opening day is later this week, after a few people sort out computer issues. CPL is a unique league for a few reasons:
1. We have 70m/ season fixed finances. You cannot spend more, and everyone makes 70m.
2. You cannot resign all your players. Coupled with 1 above, this means a good team cannot constantly replenish their roster. This strongly limits dynasties (it's hard to keep a good team going for more than 3-4 seasons), and makes rebuilding easier (it's simple to rebuild a team from scratch in 3-4 seasons).
3. It's very challenging. My guys know what they're doing, and I have a short fuse for booting the unattentive. As a result, I tend to have more openings than most, and the fellows I do have are good. Good teams miss the playoffs in my league. Rebuilds fail. Surprise teams make the playoffs. All kinds of good stuff.
4. We're a 'lower energy, constant effort' kind of league. I sim (like clockwork!) 5 days every weekday. This gives a huge amount of control to you should you want it, but it's not required. Some guys will export a lineup for every single sim, some will only do once a week. But every day, you get a summary of the big games from that day to read with your morning coffee

On the flip side, people tend to be somewhat conservative. No one's trading like a headless chicken...
If you're interested, we have four teams open:
1.
Phillies This team very surprisingly made the playoffs after a long-ish rebuild last season. They've got plenty of young talent, and are poised, with some tweaking, to compete for awhile. As with any 'surprise team', they might also have overachieved, and could thus be set up for a disappointment too.
2.
Dodgers This team needs a complete rebuild. They've got three good young pieces, and a few (tradable) vets, but by in large, you're starting from scratch.
3.
Braves Saving the trickiest team for last. This might be a team with a failed rebuild. They amassed some good young talent a few seasons ago, traded for bargain vets, but somehow missed the playoffs two seasons in a row by a couple of games. Do you want to pile up for a run? Do you want to scrap the formidable vets for a mini-rebuild (the young pitchers on this team are flat out awesome!)?
I prefer not to own a team, so I'll take whichever one no one else wants (I never own a team for longer than one season). Please email me (sh.misra@gmail.com) with your name, email address, IM screen name (not required), and the name of a commisioner of a league you're already in (someone who can vouch for your intelligence!).
