June 22, 1879 - Sunday Base Ball Report
Cincinnati Reds 17-7
Chicago White Stockings 14-10
Syracuse Stars 14-10
Troy Trojans 13-10
Providence Grays 13-11
Boston Red Caps 11-13
Cleveland Blues 9-14
Buffalo Bisons 4-20
Even Cap Anson and the hard-hitting Red Caps could not slow down the Cincinnati Reds, as Cincy took two of three to continue their surprising run atop the National League standings. However, a true test lies ahead; for the next five games, Cincinnati will be battling with the second-place Chicago White Stockings. Chicago appears to be rounding into midseason form, and just got long-injured shortstop John Bass back in their lineup. However, the White Stockings are still not certain what this will mean for John Peters, who has filled in quite capably so far this year.
