Pittsburgh continues resigning talent, this time locking up 2B Rennie Stennett for another year worth $246,000.

The first three hitters in the Milwaukee lineup accounted for 12 of the Brewers 18 hits in a 12-7 win over Baltimore. Robin Yount (.234,13 RBI) had 5 hits and scored 4 runs, Dick Davis (.385) added 3 hits, and Cecil Cooper (.343,32 RBI) ripped 4 hits and an amazing 8 RBI. Mike Parrott (0-1,6.10 ERA) took the loss in relief of Jim Palmer (4.06 ERA), who struggled giving up 6 runs (4 earned) in 5 2/3 innings. Milwaukee reliever Sam Hinds (3-0,2.95 ERA) gets the win, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Moose Haas (3.68 ERA), who gave up 6 unearned runs in just 4 innings. Baltimore 3B Elliott Maddox commited his 14th error of the season.

SS Bill Russell scrambles home from third in the bottom of the 11th inning on a ground ball by Steve Garvey off Astros reliever Ken Forsch (0-2,2.53 ERA) to give the Dodgers a 3-2 victory. Houston C Cliff Johnson (.304) delivered 3 hits in a losing effort while RF Reggie Smith (.344) had 3 hits for Los Angeles. Dennis Lewallyn (3-2,2.41 ERA) pitched 1 scoreless inning to get the win.

Most of the team are stunned that we did it, but we pulled this out in the bottom of the 9th when pinch hitter Lucas Carlton doubled home Shawn Osorio to tie the game and then Jared White singled home Carlton to win it - all with 2 outs. I may have pulled starter Josh Thomas too soon, as the bullpen failed to hold the slim 1-0, but the baseball gods were smiling upon us this day. The in kept us in a 1st place tie with the Bluefins of Staunton.

Giants pitcher Randy Moffitt sends a Manny Sarmiento pitch 440 feet over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the 13th to give San Francisco a 6-5 win over Cincinnati. The home run is the first of Moffitt's career and his first at-bat of the 1977 season. This will hereby coin the phrase of "giving up a Moffitt" whenever a pitcher gives up a home run (in particular a game winning home run) to an opposing pitcher.

Ron Guidry (2.33 ERA) improves to 7-1 by holding the Rangers to just 4 hits in a 1-0 Yankees victory. Guidry outpitched Texas pitcher Gaylord Perry (6-4,2.06 ERA), who went the distance as well, giving up just 6 hits and 1 unearned run on an error by Bump Wills (his 2nd). In the nightcap, Bert Blyleven (2.73 ERA) wins his league leading 9th game and Len Barker (0.57 ERA) gets his American League leading 15th save as the Rangers defeat New York, 5-2.

Kansas City scores 3 times in the top of the 10th to defeat Baltimore 6-3 in the first game of a double header. Rookie 1B Eddie Murray (.232) has 3 hits for the Orioles. Baltimore would scatter 11 hits, including 3 by CF Al Bumbry (.217) and DH Lee May (.239), but were unable to score in the night game, losing 6-0. Paul Splittorff (4-3,4.24 ERA) would pitch 7 1/3 scoreless innings and 1B Pete LaCock (.406) would have 3 hits for the Royals.

Pinch runner Ken McMullen scores on single by 2B Tito Fuentes (.211,11 RBI) off of Angels reliever Mickey Scott (0-1,2.35 ERA) in the bottom of the 13th to give the Tigers a 4-3 win. Fuentes would have 4 hits in the game and Phil Mankowski (.395,5 HR,14 RBI) would add 3 more as together they matched the entire California lineup. Hobbled Detroit starter Mark Fidrych (2.99 ERA) went 10 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) and Angels closer Dick Drago (5.71 ERA) blows his 4th save.

3B Buddy Bell (.272,26 RBI) hits a single off of Seattle pitcher Dave Pagan (1-2,0.79 ERA) in the bottom of the 12th to score Rick Manning and give Cleveland a 4-3 win over the Mariners. Ruppert Jones (.221), Dan Meyer (.333,14 RBI) and Leroy Stanton (.260,12 RBI) all have 3 hits for Seattle. The win combined with Baltimore's 2 losses moves Cleveland out of the cellar in the AL East by a 1/2 game.

The St. Louis Cardinals win their 8th game in a row with a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia. Eric Rasmussen (3.71 ERA) moved to 7-2, scattering 8 hits in 8 innings and Buddy Schultz (6.06 ERA) pitches the 9th for his 13th save.

Another game against Modesto, another 4-3 score, and another win in our last at-bat. This time it was Javier "The LF" Garcia getting his 3rd hit of the gaem with a triple to drive in John Hicks. Derek Todd went 5 innings, giving up a 2-run shot to tie the game and Tommy Malone and Bobby Charles kept it that way until the 9th.
