Wow, the Chicago White Stockings are completely snakebit this season. Yesterday, they lost star first baseman Joe Start to a season-ending rib injury. This follows long-term injuries to Paul Hines and John Bass, and starters Bill McClellan, George Gore, and J. O'Neill have also missed significant time this season due to injury. It seems virtually certain that they'd be near the top of the league's standings if not for all the injuries, but now they are just trying to stay in the running.
