So it turns out it
was driver-related after all. I used
EnvyNG to roll back to the 96.43.05 drivers, and OOTP8 now loads up normally. I have yet to try playing a game, but at least now I can read the menus! Here it is in all its' composited glory behind my transparent terminal!
