It appears that injuries are going to play a large role in this year's National League pennant race. Chicago's injury problems are well-documented, and they are still missing Joe Start, Paul Hines, and John Bass. This week, the other two major contenders also suffered big losses - Boston's Cap Anson went down with an arm injury that is expected to keep him out another three weeks, and Cincinnati lost their young star King Kelly for approximately two weeks. This rash of downed players has teams like Syracuse and Troy wondering if they can sneak into a contending position as a result.
