I tried OOTP 2007 demo with and without the latest patch, both crashed at startup as well, as well as OOTP 2006 demo. They ask me to register, then I hit "Trial", then it crashes.

BTW, I have plenty of other software on this laptop and never had any problems with any of it. There's something common about the OOTP code base that's causing it to crash.
