August 31, 1879 - Sunday Base Ball Report
Boston Red Caps 41-25
Cincinnati Reds 39-20
Syracuse Stars 39-26
Chicago White Stockings 34-29
Troy Trojans 32-30
Cleveland Blues 23-39
Providence Grays 23-43
Buffalo Bisons 20-39
As the season heads into its final month, it looks like a three-team race for the pennant between Boston, Cincinnati and Syracuse. (Chicago and Troy aren't completely out of the running, but both teams would need a miracle to win it.) Boston's hitting-oriented team seems to have the upper hand, but the great pitching staffs on Cincinnati and Syracuse are sure to keep things interesting.
