The younger Gardner was beaten up tonight by Smith. Smith dropped Gardner five times during the fight with the fifth and final coming with 39 seconds remaining in the final round. Gardner could not regain his feet and lost his belt by knockout.

After getting dropped flat on his back in the first round, Bob Fitzsimmons realised he was in for a fight and decided to let his hands go. Fitz did manage to drop Lees in the third round, but neitehr fighter hit the canvas again. Lees caused some swelling to form around Fitz's left eye and was never seriously hurt himself. The fight went to the cards with Fitz being the clear winner on all three cards.

Corbett is clearly the better boxer but Jeffries was landing some monster shots. It really just depended on which style you liked in this fight because there was really no clear winner. The judges were split on their decision.
