Yeah, I think the Zito signing was better than either the Darren Dreifort or the Mike Hampton FA moves. I don't like comparing position players to pitchers, but the Pirates signed Pat Meares to a 4-year, $16M contract in the mid-90s and I'd rank Zito above that in that at least Zito is above replacement level. Still, this is damning with faint praise if ever that phrase existed.
