September 7, 1879 - Sunday Base Ball Report
Boston Red Caps 43-26
Cincinnati Reds 41-22
Syracuse Stars 40-28
Chicago White Stockings 35-32
Troy Trojans 33-33
Cleveland Blues 27-40
Providence Grays 25-44
Buffalo Bisons 22-41
It's the final month of the season, and two teams still have a good shot at winning their first-ever National League pennant. (Syracuse has played well, but it is believed that they are about to suspend their season due to financial difficulties.) Here are the remaining schedules:
Boston: 3 vs. Chicago (home), 3 vs. Cincinnati (home), 3 vs. Cleveland (home), 6 vs. Providence (3 home, 3 road)
Cincinnati: 3 vs. Troy (away), 3 vs. Boston (away), 3 vs. Providence (away), 4 vs. Buffalo (away), 4 vs. Cleveland (away)
Thus, Cincinnati will need to perform well on the road if they are to take the pennant this year. In addition, Boston finally has all three members of their "big three" healthy for the first time in months, making the Reds' task still more difficult.
