OK, this is going well. I have built a spreadsheet tracking people, so from this point on it should be easy.
A couple of points that I have discovered.
1) For ONLY the people outside the United States, please list a city of birth. it does not have to be real, just any city will do. It would be easier to copy past than have to think of one. All those Canadians ended up born in York, as it was easy to type. If you do not choose one, I will do it for you.
2) For those listing the UK, please indicate which part of the UK (England, Scotland...) you want to be from. Otherwise, I will choose England (and you'll probably be from York
)
3) Editing the names at the 10 year point worked out well in some respects, and in others, it was a failure. It was successful in that I got 50 names done in 10 minutes. Since I used a couple filters, and used a weird view, I was able to get everyone on a major league level club, and that they were actually decent players.
The downside was that the changes made were not retroactive. Meaning, stud SP Colonel Bloom looked OK on the surface, but all the references in news stories and box scores for this pitcher referred to Bill Landry. This spoils the fun.
I think I will correct for this by changing the players names before the inaugural draft, and rename top level young prospects (what you would call in OOTP 8 as being 5 star potential) so that they could be drafted, develop, and star in this league.
Of course, the downside is that player development could cause some highly rated players to not make it to the big leagues. That's no fun, either.
A second possibility is to just sim 10 years, and edit the draft pool with people's names. Another would be to check each player at the start of 1961, and see if they made it to the big leagues, and if they did not, add their name to the draft pool.
Oh well, no plan survives contact with the enemy.
