The recent newsletter did a good job of highlighting a number of the new features that will be included in OOTP 9. The feature list indeed sounds very promising and I'm sure a lot of us are looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
While the feature list is of course what sells the game for many people, I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that the list of bug fixes is at least of equal importance. This is an area that we've heard very little about (although
this announcement on the FOF forums was welcome news).
I'm the commissioner of a 24-player online league (26 counting the two co-owned teams). I myself have pre-ordered, but for the time being I've instructed my owners not to pre-order OOTP 9 until more details (in particular, details on bug fixes) are available. I'm very much looking forward to giving them the green light to do so! Being responsible for my league's spending at $25 per person and $625 total, though, you can understand why I'd like to have the clearest picture possible before proceeding.
So I'd be very interested to hear status updates on some of the threads that have collected in the Logged Issues forum. These include (but are not limited to):
OOTP crashing with an "Application Error"
"Include new images" including ALL images
I still say the finances are buggy
Service Time Question
repeated CTD in 2007 when shuffling personnel
Free cuts?
To be clear, this is not at all a situation where honest answers will spark an, "I'm not buying OOTP 9 unless
[insert pet bug] gets fixed!!" reaction. I completely understand and accept that there is a limit on time and resources, and realistically not everything is going to be addressed (as much as I'm sure Markus would love to). I'm confident that those of us interested in this information are cognizant of these limitations and will be more than happy with a status update, whatever that update may be. I'm also confident that there's been solid work done squashing bugs, and as soon as I can confirm that I'll be very pleased to give the go ahead for my owners to pre-order away.
