I haven't seen the disappearing titles thing but I think it may be tied to adding new groups. The strategy has not changed since 2.0, while it does need fixed, it will not change any of the results you would normally get.
The ease of function of 2.5 is far worth moving over to. There will be a patch once OOTP9 is out to fix the minor problems with it.
