Frankly, they're pretty scary already. Fortunately for the rest of the NL, Connor is more Pedro Guerrero than Brooks Robinson at third.

May 23, 1880 - Sunday Base Ball Report

Cleveland Blues 9-3
Boston Red Caps 9-3
Troy Trojans 8-3
Cincinnati Reds 6-5
Chicago White Stockings 5-7
Providence Grays 4-7
Buffalo Bisons 3-8
Worcester Ruby Legs 2-10

Early on, both Cleveland and Troy are looking like realistic challengers to the Boston Red Caps. Boston still looks like the best team, as they are currently second in the league in both runs scored (with 96) and runs allowed (with 42). However, Troy, led by the hitting of Dan Brouthers (.380), rookie Roger Connor (.367), and the surprising "Hartford Jack" Farrell (.469), are actually outscoring the vaunted Boston hitters. Meanwhile, Cleveland, although their hitting attack has not been as strong, has been the best team in the league at not giving up runs. This is looking like it could be an interesting race.
