Rooney and Farmer was a "smarter" broadcast than Shannon and Rooney because, well, Mike is just too darned silly to be all that smart. So Rooney just sort of plays a plain straight man to the Moonman's quirky commentary.
Typical Mike, I think he was with Jay Randolph on the local TV station when the Cards and Reds were playing and he says, of Ken Griffey Jr.:
"Hehe, this guy's pretty good. Future All-Star. Hehehe...I mean, uh. Uh. Hehehe. One of those Cooperstown guys..."
I'm waiting for the day when they give the traditional shout out to the affiliate of my wife's hometown, Dixon, IL.
Mike: We'd like to say hi to all the folks listening on WSEY in Dixon, Illinois. Dixon Illinois on the Rock River. *cackle*
Mike: The former president, Ronald Reagan was from Dixon, Illinois. And they have an arch there. Have you ever seen the arch in Dixon, Illinois, eh-John eh-Rooooney?
Rooney: No, Mike, I've never seen it.
Mike: Some of you folks might know we've got, uh, an arch here in St. Louis, too. *cackle*
*crickets*
