I don't care for Farmer, and only tolerated him because he and Rooney seemed to have a "smart" sort of chemistry. As you say, more aptly, Rooney "reined him in." I haven't listed to a Sox game since a few weeks into the 2006 campaign.
And I love Mike Shannon, but he's definitely an acquired taste. He's a well-meaning local boy, been a Cardinal practically all his life, and he fits the team's historic image. I always thought he was a great country-bumpkin foil to the more urbane Jack Buck. And he'd be a
great foil to Rooney, but since he's the lead play-by-play man, things aren't as ideal as they could be.
