Not quite as long as decades and decades (although Ive run the Yankees in previous versions), my latest league had me take over the Yankees (Highlanders) in 1903 and run a "what-if" scenario (amatuer draft with recalc off) currently in the offseason before the 1914 season. I sim one week at a time, adjusting the roster if needed, and also play as the team GM. In the 11 seasons of the league, so far I have 4 AL Pennants (1905, 10, 11, 13) and 2 World Series (1905 and 1913).

I have a few house rules that I use though, and edited the Highlanders to average fan loyalty, average fan interest, and average market size, and cut down my budget to the bottom 3rd of the league, before starting the league

Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.
