Houston--The Pittsburgh Lumber Company awoke from a slumber to rally in the second game of the National League Championship Series Saturday night.

The Pirates scored three times in the sixth inning off Houston starter Don Wilson and wound up posting a 4-3 victory. The win evened the NLCS at two games apiece.

The Astros jumped out an early 3-1 lead after just three innings. Astro left fielder Carlos May delivered the key blow, a two-run homer off Pirate right-hander Bob Moose. May has hit three home runs in the playoff series.

After scoring just one run in the first 14 innings of the playoffs, Pittsburgh finally struck gold in the sixth. Bill Buckner led off the frame with a single, his third hit of the game. After a fielder's choice ground ball by Willie Stargell, Richie Hebner and Al Oliver each singled to load the bases.

Matty Alou and Milt May both followed with RBI base hits to tie the game. Oliver then scored what proved to be the winning run when Fred Patek's slow roller ground out plated the Pirate outfielder. Wilson finally ended the inning by striking out Moose.

Houston threatened in the eighth when John Mayberry doubled off reliever Bob Veale with one out. After a Carlos May ground out, Stargell made a spectacular diving catch of a drive off the bat of Doug Rader to end the inning.

Dave Giusti pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to presevere the Pittsburgh victory.

Following a day of travel, the playoff series will resume Monday at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium. Luke Walker will start for the Pirates against Larry Dierker for the Astros.
