Pittsburgh, Penn.--While the National League Championship Series venue shifted from the Astrodome to Three Rivers Stadium, the game result reverted to game one's outcome.

The Houston Astros routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-2 to take a two games-to-one lead in the NCLS. Houston's victory harkened back to its playoff-opening 9-0 romp. Pittsburgh won game two 4-3.

Monday's game got away from Pittsburgh quickly. The Astros scored twice in the first inning and once more in the third. Then came a five-run outburst in the fourth. Cesar Cedeno provided the exclamation mark with a three-run homer off Pirate starter Luke Walker.

As in the series opener, Pittsburgh also played shoddy defense. This time around, the Pirates committed three errors and allowed three unearned runs. Short stop Fred Patek, normally sure-handed and a Gold Glove candidate, made his second error of the playoffs.

Houston hopes to close out the NLCS in Tuesday's game four in Pittsburgh. Two seasons ago the Pirates rallied from a 2-1 deficit against the Los Angeles Dodgers and advanced to the JIM World Series.

Tuesday's contest will be a game one rematch of Pirate right-handed ace Dock Ellis and the Astros' Ken Forsch.
