WEEKLY THOUGHTS
Well, definitely not the start we wanted at 2-4. We're 2.5 behind the Royals, tied with the Tigers and Twins, and a game behind the Indians as well. Jim Thome had a good week, hitting .360 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. We didn't hit or pitch very well—a bad combination. We hit .245 and had a 5.03 team ERA, and our bullpen ERA was 0.1 lower than our starters' ERA—a big difference from the spring. So I guess if there's a positive to be found, that's it.
In transaction news, we got a great deal from the Tigers for 25-year old minor league catcher Eric Hollis. They gave up 3 pitching prospects—Brandon Hamilton, Casey Crosby, and the best of the bunch—Rick Porcello. Unfortunately, they're all 19, so I have to hope I last a few years so I can see them develop.
We also put middle reliever Boone Logan on the 60-day DL, as what we originally thought was just a nagging back injury ended up being a torn back muscle. We called up Mike MacDougal to take his place.
