East claims many Gold Gloves
No Red Sox win honors

The names of this year's Gold Glove winners for defensive excellence were announced today.
Minnesota Twins firstbaseman Mark Teixeira and Cincinnati Reds thirdbaseman Troy Glaus each took home their fourth Gold Glove awards this year while Milwaukee Brewers secondbaseman Brandon Phillips, Chicago White Sox shortstop Derek Jeter and Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Craig Monroe all were awarded their third Gold Glove awards. Monroe's teammate, thirdbaseman Alex Gordon, won his first Gold Glove.
The American League East's Gold Glove winners also include New York Yankees outfielder Domingo Medina (2nd Gold Glove) and pitcher Joe Myers (1st), Tampa Bay Rays catcher Carlos Vargas (2nd) and outfielder Bobby Kielty (2nd). Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Jose Mares also won his first Gold Glove.
In the National League, the West was won with defense. Los Angeles Dodgers firstbaseman Alonso Gutierrez won his second Gold Glove, as did Colorado Rockies shortstop Bill Hall. Veteran catcher Bengie Molina of the San Francisco Giants was honored with the award for the first time.
Other Gold Glove winners this year were Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Chien-Ming Wang (2nd Gold Glove), Cleveland Indians secondbaseman Robinson Cano (1st), Chicago Cubs outfielder Ryan Church (2nd) and Houston Astros outfielder Jay Gibbons (1st).
