An interesting thing to try would be having Wakefield as a middle 'starter' - I wanted to put reliever but I don't think long or mop-up will be his forte.
If in 2009 we have long trips and the off-days don't help the starters, they could go 4.1 or 4.2 (I know statistically speaking it precludes them from a W but as long as the team wins I don't care which name it goes against), and let Wakefield pitch between 2.1 and 3.1 innings depending on the need for Oka to setup for Paps.
He's done long relief stints before (ALCS 2004 Game 3

) and he could do that 3 days out of 5 no problems whilst the rotation recovers.
