I don't think the intention of this endeavor is to get those of us who run or play in online leagues to pay a monthly fee; rather it's to branch out into an new demographic of customer. As long as Markus assures us that it won't take developmental time away from the core game - and he just did a couple posts up - I'm all for it. Like you, I have no interest in paying a monthly fee for this product. But if it attracts casual fans and brings in revenue that can be turned around and used to improve the core game, that's certainly a project worth pursuing.
