I definitely agree with this, although I'd caution a "smaller guy" group like OOTPDev to spend too many resources on advertising, at least via conventional means. Or if you're going to do it, do it whole hog by hiring specific people to do that for you. I'm not sure that anything short of bringing in someone else to help with your marketing is going to have the "desired effect" you mention.
