Hmmm. Not sure about the runner, but the pinch hitter is a pinch hitter unless and until he assumes a position in the field, at which point he becomes that position. You see this in the box score. If the PH takes a position in the field, say 1B, then the box score will list him as "PH-1B". It's not often that you see a
PR get to the plate, so I'm not sure if the
PR becomes a PH or what. My guess is that is what would happen. "
