I think doing what he seems to be doing, both at the same time, is best. You only add new stuff and you're going to piss off your core customers because you didn't fix/improve stuff that they want improved. You don't add new stuff and a lot of people are going to bitch that they're just being asked to pay for a patch and so it will be difficult to get new sales.
Rest is a different issue. If he needs rest then fine, we can wait longer.
