BOSTON - The Red Sox and pitcher Roy Oswalt came to terms on a contract extension that will keep the hurler in town through at least 2013.
Oswalt, making $13.94 million this year, signed a two-year extension with an option for a third year.
He will make $15.5 million next season, $17 million in 2013, and, if the mutual option is vested, $19 million in 2014. There is a $600,000 bonus for winning the Cy Young Award.
Oswalt is 5-5 with a 3.70 ERA in 11 starts with the Red Sox thus far, coming off an 18-10, 3.09 ERA campaign last season. Since being traded to Boston in 2009, Oswalt has gone 30-17 with a 3.73 ERA in 56 starts. He owns a 169-136 lifetime record with a 3.59 ERA over his 12 year career.
In Chicago, former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe has re-signed with the Cubs. Lowe, 37, will make $7.58 million annually over the life of the two-year extension. He has gone 4-5 with a 3.34 ERA in 10 starts this season and owns a 126-96 lifetime record with 103 saves and a 4.02 ERA over seven seasons with the Red Sox and seven with the Cubs.
