Dave Mason: Personal Diary Entry
The following is an excerpt from the journal of Dave Mason, a 22-year-old pitching prospect from Somerville, Mass., that has just recently been acquired via trade by his hometown Boston Red Sox. Mason has been assigned to the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League, Boston's AAA affiliate.

It's been a couple days since the trade and today I finally made my first trip to McCoy Stadium as a player. The team was still in Scranton, finishing off a three-game series with the Yankees. Since I had pitched just before the trade, the Red Sox gave me a couple days to get things in order for my move back home. They told me not to meet the club in Scranton but rather just wait until they came back to Pawtucket for a series with Norfolk. I'll be pitching the series opener tomorrow night. I have a lot of family and friends coming down to watch the game. Norfolk is a good team so I'll have my work cut out for me.
I've briefly talked to my new manager - Ken Stanton - over the phone but won't meet him until I arrive at the park tomorrow. Its his first year managing and he's kinda young - 42 years old - but he's got the team in first place.
I haven't been this nervous about a game in awhile. Hopefully I can use that nervous energy in my favor tomorrow on the mound.
Better try to get some sleep.
