That whole process requires a whole new element. It's more of a bidding process, then purchasing of a contract. With the purchase of independent contracts, without knowing details, I'm sure it's a lot simpler.

Well, something like that is needed anyway to recreate the way signing amateur players worked before the draft was instituted. The signing bonus "wars" were a rather fundamental aspect of MLB's history (and what led to the amateur draft).
