Open Market vs. Team Consistency

I thought I liked the idea of a very short service term before a player is awarded FA. After all, most other professions allow you to go work for whatever company you choose, why should ballplayers be restricted to a particular employer? So, I set my fictional league at 2 years service time for FA and went on my way.

However, now I see 28 year olds that have played for 6 different teams, and superstars who have no team identity, and it kind of makes me sad. Not to mention that it makes it tough to keep up with who is playing where.

I started to wonder what people generally did, and figured most probably leave service time until FA at the default. But then decided I should never assume.

What say ye?
