Exactly my thoughts.
Speaking of my thoughts, the PbP is much better in terms of imagination rather than looking at a line progress on a screen, IMO. Especially when it says ground single into left and the ball with a "G" on it stops only where it left the infield instead of progressing on into the outfield. This is why, after a short trial, this is off as well as sound and why I was glad to see somebody discuss a treatment in another thread by which I could get rid of the ball placement that remains even after ball animation is turned off.
Still, as I just said in yet another thread about sound, I welcome ball animation if it satisifies a significant number of customers. I would like, however, an option to turn it completely off.
