1982 Preview
March 15th 1982 - With no players yet eligible for free-agency or the Rule 5 Draft, most teams will have a similar line-up to that which they trotted out in 1981.
There may be a few clubs who have made trades, but no real stars have swapped sides, and no teams appear to be much stronger than they were last year.
The only really significant personnel changes will be due to injuries. Last year's champion, Vienna, might be one of those hurt most as they will be missing their best pitcher from 1981. If they manage to repeat, they will definitely deserve it.
Given the success of the league in it's first season, it was no surprise that a number of young men left their country's education system and started shopping themselves around to EBL teams in hopes of a contract. A few were successful, notably Brussels signed a good young 2B called Anotolio Jovine, but pretty soon the league office decided they couldn't accept this kind of thing, so have now instituted an amateur draft which will take place in June of each season. Any player hoping to play in the EBL will have to report for the draft and make themselves available to all teams.
