The New York Mutuals won all five of their games in August to pull within 3 of the Athletics, and Washington continued their rise. They now boast the 2nd most wins in the league but their losses have kept them from getting any higher than 3rd in the standings. Cleveland was the polar opposite, dropping from 3rd to 8th after losing all 6 of their August games.

In Other News
The Fort Wayne Kekiongas have been disbanded due to player defections. A number of players simply went home after their August 29 win against Troy after management declared they would be unable to pay the players due to low attendance at Kekionga home games. Star pitcher Jake Lindsey, who is leading the NA in ERA went to Dallas declaring that he would be willing to pitch for a team next year provided the team recompense him for his services. The National Association has already announced that the Kekiongas will be replaced with the Eckfords of Brooklyn in 1872.

Washington center fielder John Arend has extended his hitting streak to 26 games, the longest in the league.
