I just imported into OOTP 2009 and everything works fine. Granted, I've only booted it up twice now but I don't anticipate any problems. You may want to make sure you have the latest OOTP 2009 patch.
As for changing the name of the league to something other than "Gold Coast League" I'm not sure if this can be done within the "game setup" menu or not.
Once you have imported "The Greats" into OOTP 2009, you may want to try saving it as a new game. I've never done that so I'm not sure what will happen.
